*This is my first ARC review and I am extremely honored to have been given the chance by the author to read her book before release date. I was given this chance in exchange for my honest review of the book and that is what I intend to do.*
I have read several other books by Mimi Strong and I have yet to be disappointed. I love her writing style and the way that she brings the characters to life. You can really relate to each one.
Book Synopsis
I should have known by the tattoos that Sawyer was trouble. My mother always said to stay away from boys with ink, but she ignored her own advice. She also abandoned me and my little sister.
Life's been hard for the two of us, on the run and on our own, but I just turned twenty-one and started working at a bar in a new city. I wear a fake wedding band and a veil of lies.My gold ring didn't stop Sawyer. He looked into me with his heavenly green eyes, and I nearly forgot my pretty lies. Now he wants to help me get my life together.
I should stay away, because he could blow my cover. When we get found—and I know one day we will—I want my sister to be old enough to handle the truth about our past.
I may be hanging out with Sawyer, but we're definitely not dating. I swear, he's not setting me on fire with every glance or casual touch. We're just friends. I'm not thinking about him wrapping those tattooed arms around me, every second of every day.
My Review
When I started reading, I knew it was going to be another really great book by this author and was super excited to the point I couldn’t put it down. The book had you caught up in emotions of both sadness and happiness. I could truly relate with Aubrey in some way or another. I felt the pain and the constant worry that she was dealing with of having everything fall apart around her after she has worked so hard. When a hot, super sweet, hunk walks into her life it makes it all the more complicated.
The story is about a girl named Aubrey who has been constantly on the run and in hiding from her past. She has along with her, her sister Bell. Aubrey is so afraid that her past will eventually catch up with her that she does everything in her power to stay away from anyone that she feels would cause her to open up. After finding out her grandparents are still alive she finally settles in the small town. Her uncle also resides there and gives her a job working for him at his bar. Here is where she meets the hot, hunky Sawyer, a guy with beautiful tattoos, a sweet personality and a strong liking for Aubrey.
Aubrey is pretty cautious with Sawyer and does not try to lead him on. She is pretty flat out honest about how she feels. Trust is a huge thing for her and after working so hard to keep a low profile she was not about to just let it all fall apart over a guy. Unfortunately, Sawyer was not one to give up so easily and Aubrey is finding it hard to keep a distance from him.
Sawyer was amazing, and I found myself falling for his character, haha!! He never let life get him down (or at least he was really good at hiding it). He always looked to positive ways about issues. Sawyer helps Aubrey leave her shell and begin to finally see that not everything is bad. He was pure hotness in this book and I was starting to see that I might have to up him on my book boyfriend list, lol!
I really enjoyed the fact that you got to see both characters’ POV. I love when an author adds that quality to the story, it helps you to really understand what both characters about and it makes the story more believable. Even though there was a lot of hard emotional moments in the book there were also fun parts and I found myself laughing at a few of Sawyer’s comments. Oh the sexual tension that started off in this book was beyond hotness!! All I can say is, WOW, when the tension went to another whole level!!! YUMMY!!! ;-)
Overall, I found this book to be an amazing story and really felt that by the end I could really relate with the characters. Mimi Strong is an amazing writer and I love how she is so detailed with her characters. She gives a sense of understanding and allows you to the live the stories of the people she writes about instead of just reading them. Each book you feel a part of, you feel you know the characters. I truly enjoy this book and would highly recommend it along with other books written by Mimi Strong. You won’t be disappointed!!
