Wreck Me by J.L. Mac

Book Synopsis:

Life can be cruel. People can be ruthless and evil. The world can be cold and uninviting. No one knows these things better than Josephine Geroux. By her own definition, she is a twenty-five year old "nobody with nothing," and she is content to stay that way. Growing up an orphan has made her tough and indifferent to the people around her until she meets a strangely familiar man with a face that haunts her for reasons she can't understand.

Despite the pain that will inevitably ensue, she makes it her mission to discover what parts of her tragic puzzle she is missing. On her journey to discovering why she feels an alarming connection to an absolute stranger, her greatest fear is reawakening the demons and darkness from the past that will surely overtake her if she lets her guard down.

Little does Josephine know that the past should be least of her worries. She is toying with a man who has already broken her heart once. She just doesn't realize it. Although she makes it a point to avoid interactions with others, Josephine's life becomes entangled with the enigmatic stranger. Before she realizes it, she has given herself over to the one person who is close enough to wreck her.

Book Review:

OH. MY. GOD!!! Talk about an intense book!! The emotions that played through it were insane and I could feel each and everyone!! This book had me laughing and crying and swooning all in a matter of pages!

Holy hotness, Damon!!! Talk about a mixture of crazy emotion toward a male character, everything about him was insanely hot!! I wouldn't mind running into a Damon and enjoying some of the things he is so...well.....amazing at!! ;-)

I felt so much for both Jo and Damon and the sad background of their youth. Both dealing with some serious sadness about life. I felt my heart tug a few times when Jo opened up about her suffering she went through as a young girl. You really don't get to much of Damon's past till closer to the end of the book and then you really understand his ways a little more.

What a great read and talk about a cliffhanger......NOOOO!!! I can't wait to get a hold of the other book to get back into the story to see what happens with Damon, and to see what will progress between the two of them.

I actually plan on re-reading this book as the next installment actually came out today, so I want to refresh myself and be able to flow back into the story!! Thankfully, I didn't have to wait to long for the next book, compared to some of the others I am still waiting for. I don't know why I continuously pick books that I have to wait for the next one to be released. I am just torturing myself. Specially when I have a feeling this next book is going to be even better than the first and then I will have to wait again for the third book to be released, ugh the torture, hahaha!!!

If you have not read this book yet, I highly recommend you purchase it!! You definitely won't regret it!!

Better off Dead In Deadwood (Book 4) by Ann Charles

Book Synopsis:

One dead body. One century-old haunted opera house. One zombie musical. One pissed-off detective.

Will Violet "Spooky" Parker keep her tail out of trouble or will she end up as one of Deadwood's walking dead?

Book Review:

This is book four in the series and I am so upset that this is the last one for awhile that I will be able to read. Looks like won't have a new one out till 2014. Oh the agony!!! How am I going to survive not reading about Violet's adventure and whether or not everything works out with her and Doc.

In book four of the series, we find Violet dealing with the loss of her boss. She was found at the bottom of a mine and Violet knows it wasn't just an accident that somebody had murdered her boss and she intends on finding the killer.

This book had a lot more back and forth between Violet and Cooper (the detective) and I loved every moment of it. She is one feisty lady in this book and I have grown to like her even more!

On top of her trying to figure out Jane's killer she is still trying to get the sale of the hotel to grow through with her latest client, but she is finding herself being pulled into something that may just be the end of her. There are a lot more supernatural beings in this book and there is more mystery leaving you wanting to hurry through each page to find out what happens next.

It is hard to really throw a review out because I don't want to give anything away as to what happens in each of these books in the series. Just know that there is more friction between Doc and Violet, a new character comes in later on in the book and Cooper has a little anger management issue he needs to work through. Oh and Harvey, just is Harvey it just gets a lot more fun!

I am not to happy about the cliffhanger she left at the end of this book, it is so not fair!!! Don't bring in something like that and then not have another book for me to read right after this one, hahaha!! Just hateful!!

This book kind of had me creeped out a little more than the others, there were some paranormal creatures added that would make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, least it did mine a couple times and again I found myself looking over my shoulder and trying not to stare in the dark places of my house, hahaha!! Can we say chicken, most definitely. Ann Charles is an awesome writer and I look forward to starting her other series "A Jack Rabbit Junction Mystery!"

I really recommend this series, you will not regret reading these books and you will be wanting more from this author. The stories are well thought out, the characters are very realistic and the mystery/suspense will drive you insane!! Oh and be prepared to be a little spooked from Violet's adventures with the dead!! Go out and purchase this series now, you won't regret it!!!

Dead Case in Deadwood (Book 3) by Ann Charles

Book Synopsis:

"Nothing good ever happens at the butt-crack of dawn. No doubt, the headless corpse on the autopsy table in front of me would agree." --Violet Parker

Real estate agent, Violet "Spooky" Parker stumbles upon a body-part theft ring at the local funeral parlor and suspects her caustic coworker has a hand in it -- or maybe a foot. Can Violet discover what's in the crates the crooks are sneaking out of the mortuary in the dark of night? Or will she end up in one of them herself...in pieces?

Book Review:

OMG!!! Just when I thought the series couldn't get any better Ann Charles brings it in this next book! I love this series!! Well Violet Parker is at it again and this time looks like she has gotten herself into something much bigger than she realized!

The book is another page turner I kept bouncing back and forth of who could be responsible. Just when I thought I had it, another twist is added...Ann Charles has got a way of keeping you guessing till the last minute! And wow, was I not expecting to get that kind of ending! I am liking where she is taking the story, definitely adding a lot more spook to it!!

The characters are getting more witty in comments as well and I am loving every bit of it. This book had me laughing constantly but also had me spooked and watching over my shoulder, hahaha....

I really enjoy how the author made the characters more realistic, there isn't any quick falling in love, there is constant tension between both Doc and Violet, along with Cooper (the detective trying to solve all the cases). There is no love triangle, which is a plus! I just wish though that things would get a little more going with Doc and Violet, haha....they are finally connecting better, so I am hoping in the next book they will finally be together but I don't want it to be perfect, I like a little drama between the characters, and that is what I am getting. Makes the story fun!!

If I had to say who my favorite character out of this series is, would be Harvey, that man has me rolling on the floor laughing with his funny way for charm and his constant remarks about anything and anyone! He is not afraid to say what he thinks, plus he makes a mean molasses cookie...haha!!

I am excited about starting book four of the series because I know it is probably going to be just as great or even better!!

Optical Delusions in Deadwood (Book 2) by Ann Charles

Book Synopsis:

Someone is spreading rumors around Deadwood that Violet Parker likes to chat with dead folks.

With her reputation endangered, her bank account on the verge of extinction, and her career at risk of going up in flames, Violet desperate. When the opportunity to sell another vintage home materializes, she grabs it, even though this "haunted" house was recently the stage for a two-act, murder-suicide tragedy.

Ghost or no ghost, Violet knows this can't be as bad as the last house of horrors she tried to sell, but sexy Doc Nyce has serious doubts. Her only hope of hanging on to her job is to prove that the so-called, ghostly sightings are merely the eccentric owner's optical delusions.

But someone-or something-in the house wants Violet stopped....dead.

Book Review:

This is the second book in the Deadwood Mystery Series and I have to say I liked it even better than the first! It was another page turner through and through.  Violet really knows how to get into trouble. She was very persistent in this book. Not willing to give up on trying to make things right and get the truth out. So again she finds herself in danger.

OMG!! Can we say Harvey is crazy!! I laughed so hard every time he opened his mouth. I would so love to have a Harvey in my life. He just pops whatever he wants to say and doesn't give a damn what others think. He definitely brings some fun to the book.

I have really enjoyed these books so far because of they contain both humor and suspense. It is great to take a book serious sometimes but it is even better to have a few laughs with it to. Ann Charles gives you both and she really makes you feel like you are in the story.

Oh can we say serious tension with Doc and Violet. They finally are making it further with their feelings and I just hope it continues. Violet is so worried about her friend Natalie and what will happen if she finds out that her and Doc have been seeing each other since Natalie made claim to him in the first book. Sometimes you just have to fight for what you want and because Natalie and Doc never officially were together I don't see this as cheating or crossing a line other than the fact I really think that Violet needs to tell Natalie. Maybe that will happen in the next book.

I am really glad that Doc's secret was exposed a little more in this book and that you can understand a little more of what is going on with him. He has fully come clean to Violet about his abilities and I hope that Violet doesn't get stupid with all this information she has received by messing up there growing relationship. I want them to be together, they fit well!

I am just having to much fun reading this series. It is a fun-filled series filled with smart-ass personalities, suspense and sexiness all rolled into one hell of a series. You will love every moment, it will make you laugh, say "Oh My" and have you wondering what will happen next. I would highly recommend for you to grab this series and start reading, you definitely won't regret it that is for sure!!

Nearly Departed In Deadwood (Book 1) by Ann Charles

Book Synopsis:

With her savings dwindling and just three weeks left to sell her first house or lose her Realtor Job, Violet is ecstatic when a  handsome jeweler hires her to sell his century-old Victorian masterpiece, until she sees the dilapidated dwelling.

Now, if she could just convince her only buyer to stop rejecting vintage homes as if they're haunted. Short on time and long on worry, she refuses to give up her dream of a fresh start in Deadwood. But with a malicious coworker trying to get her fired, a secret admirer sending her creepy messages, and a sexy stranger hiding skeletons in his closet, will Violet end up as one of the Deadwood's dearly departed.

Book Review:

So I guess I can say I really and truly loved this book! I ended up reading in a few hours and of course part of that time was when I should have been sleeping. Every time I got to a new chapter I told myself I would put it down but I didn't and then 2 am comes around and I finally finished it with a WTF! I was completely taken back with the way everything came out. Talk about a page turn, there were so many twists and turns in this book it kept you guessing who was the actual killer.

Violet Parker moved to Deadwood to live with her Aunt Zoe to start over after several crappy relationships and a piece of crap job. She wanted a new start a chance to watch her children grow up. She was given a chance at Calamity Jane's Realty but had only a few more weeks to complete the sell of a home or she was going to see all her dreams of starting over go out the door.

Her first client that comes through the door is Wolfgang Hessler, his family owns the jewelry tore in town and he is wanting to sell his mother's home before he goes back to San Francisco  Violet was definitely not expecting the condition of the house, it was really run-down and need a ton of work. But desperate for a sale she takes on the house. The feel of the house was really creepy to me and I wasn't even there, lol. I knew the story was going to be based a good amount around the creepy house so I was excited to see where it was going to go.

Shall we moved on to Doc, I say so! He moves next door to her realty company and the first time she runs into is when she trips over his box of books, from there he comes in requesting her services for helping her find a house to buy. But there is something strange about him, besides his hotness he has a secret and he does his best to keep that secret, but Violet is persistent nd is not willing to give up on finding out what he is hiding.

This book was great, I really loved the way it kept me glued to each page wondering what was going to happen next, just when I thought I figured it out, it would completely change the direction. I did eventually figure out closer to the end but I did not realize how dark and disturbing it was. I like the fact there is a twist of paranormal in it, one of genre I enjoy reading about. One thing I know for sure I will not be reading the rest of the books at night as some parts were a little creepy, haha!!

Harvey was had my sides in stitches, what a funny old man. He kept the story light and fun. Between Violet and Harvey's back and forth smart ass remarks and her Violet's kids you were giggling in scenes that should be full off worry.

I don't think there was ever a point in the story where I didn't feel like I was a part. I just hope that the story goes with Violet and Doc becoming a pair. There was so much sexual tension, well just tension all together, between them, it would drive anyone insane. I was thinking back on the story to see if there were any annoying parts and I have to say that there wasn't one point that I got annoyed with the main character. She wasn't whiny and didn't complain much, she seemed sometimes to have a few airhead moments, but who doesn't have those.

I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the rest of the books in the series. Ann Charles is a great writer and she brings the story to life. There were a few grammar and spelling issues but I don't judge a review off of that. I would definitely recommend this book and the series. I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

The Lonely by Tara Brown

Book Synopsis:

The truth is subjective to what the lonely lets in.

Emalyn Spicer has lived with it for a long time. She thinks it goes back further than her memories do. She knows it goes back further than the OCD.

When she arrives at college, her OCD's and the lonely refuse to let her have her wish to be normal.

When she meets Sebastian and starts to fall for him, she lets herself believe it's possible to outrun the things chasing her from the past. But how to you get away from the things inside of you? How do you run from yourself?

Just as she gives up and succumbs to the lonely, the unthinkable happens. She finds herself once again trapped in the dark, once again held against her will.

This time she meets the lonely head on. In the darkest corners of her mind, she discovers there is more to her world than she ever imagined. She discovers that the lonely is there for her, protecting her from herself and her secrets.

How far would you go to find yourself?

Book Review:

Wow! So where to start with this book review. I am trying to find a way of going into what I feel about this book and not give away a lot of what happens in the book. I have mixed emotions about this book. It was a well written piece and Tara Brown did a great job keeping you locked into the situation that was going on in the book. It was a dark piece, not as dark as some that I have read, but still dark. I found myself torn between liking the book and really just not wanting like it. Just when I felt like I was going to put it down and not complete it I was pulled in by another change.

I really don't know what to say about Emalyn, except she has definitely problems that she herself doesn't know how to fix. I felt sorry for her, I felt her pain of not knowing if she would ever be normal again. She was always on guard, always flipping out at the smallest sign of change. I really thought things would be good for her when she met Sebastian. I did at some point finding myself getting really annoyed with her, just like I wanted to slap her and say "get over it!" But it is hard for a person who has suffered so long in the dark to actually do that. So I had to let myself be patient with her as she made her journey.

Like others that have posted on reviews the story takes two directions. The change in the story happens after the kidnapping of her and her driver Stuart. That is where you learn new things about Emalyn and realize that somethings were false. It switches to a different level after that and a different story line, at least that is what I thought. At first I really didn't see where this other story was going with her but towards the end it all made sense.

By the end of the book I was actually glad I had stuck through and read it all. It turned out to be a great book and I learned that sometimes in life you should just be grateful for what you have and that you can not change the past, you just have to learn to live through it and move on.

"The Lonely," will mess with your mind and have jump from one lead to the other not knowing really which directions is up or down. You get lost in the characters and at some point you wonder if you will ever get out. I really enjoyed the book and think that if given the chance you might to. I think everyone could connect with Emalyn in some point of their lives, I know I can, maybe not by going through the ordeal she did but just sometimes wondering if you can escape the lonely that takes over.

Kathleen Turner Series by Tiffany Snow

**I am combining this review since I finished all these books only a few hours apart**

"No Turning Back" Synopsis:

Kathleen Turner has goals. She moved to Indianapolis to start seeing to them, but things aren't going quite as well as she'd hoped. She's a runner for a high-powered law firm in town, not the most prestigious of positions, but it and her part-time bartender gig at least pays the bills. And one of the senior partners is a dreamboat in that obscenely rich, disturbingly good looking, slightly snobbish sort of way.

Before she did a mortifying face plant in his lap during a meeting, she was quite happy ogling him from afar. After that...well...she was more about the avoiding. Mature, no. More likely to assure she keeps her job, yes.

When Kathleen finds her friend murdered next door, shock and horror are followed by gritty determination when it becomes clear that Sheila's death isn't random and it isn't the result of a jealous boyfriend. It's the opening gambit in a web of murder, deceit, conspiracy, and fraud that stretches to the law firm for which Kathleen works. Maybe to the very office that Blane Kirk commands.

"Turning To Me" Book Synopsis:

When Kathleen Turner, office runner for the prestigious Indianapolis law firm of Kirk & Trent, started dating the boss she knew the risks. Kathleen is the happiest she's been in a long time, especially as Christmas approaches, but she's always known there was termination date on her relationship with Blane Kirk.

She just didn't expect that termination to be her funeral

Blane's current case is drawing heated debate and stirring the pot of public fury. A former Navy SEAL stands accused of the wrongful death of an American citizen during a military operation overseas. The case has far-reaching political and military implications. Someone with a lot of money, and even more clout, wants Blane to lose.

As dead bodies of people connected to the defense start piling up, Kathleen with the help of Kade, Blane's brother and ex-FBI-agent-turned-assassin-for-hire, try to discover the killer before it is to late.

Unfortunately for Kathleen, he's already moved for the end-game-by painting a target on her....and pulling the trigger

"Turning Point" Book Synopsis:

After her promotion from law firm Runner to Investigator, Kathleen Turner is learning the ropes of her new job from non other than assassin-for-hire Kade Dennon, a situation her boyfriend Blane Kirk is none too happy about. But the lessons with Kathleen take a back seat when Kade becomes a target. Previously untouchable, his enemies now know of the chink in his armor - his brother's girlfriend.

And Kade is not the only thing coming between Kathleen and Blane. From Blane's inexplicable defense of a man guilty of a horrible crime, to a mysterious stranger from Kathleen's past, to Kathleen's risky investigation into human traffickers, the obstacles mount against a relationship that's just begun to find trust again.

Unfortunately, her current case is far more dangerous than anyone knows. Someone close to Blane will go to extreme lengths to split them up, lengths that may prove worse than death for Kathleen.

Kathleen, Blane and Kade must atone for the sins of the past and the present. The fallout will force Kathleen to a turning point...in her career and her life.

Book Review for all:

OMG!!! Where to start on this review. One thing I can definitely throw out there first is the fact I loved this series and was completely devastated when Book 4 (Out of Turn) was not  going to be released till December 2013. The cliffhanger on Book 3(Turning Point) is enough to drive me insane.

I couldn't put these books down practically read them all in like 3 days. I lost a lot of sleep, haha!! Tiffany Snow has a way of capturing you into a story and really making you feel like you are part of it. The story is really well written with very few grammar or spelling issues (that never determines a review for me. The way the story keeps me interested is my decision on the stars it receives). I really like her style of writing and I look forward to reading others by her. I have to say will be putting her on my "Favorite Authors" list for sure!

With the page by page blows of suspense and tension it would drive anyone insane. The love triangle alone is enough to make me pull every bit of my hair out. I have to say though I am leaning more towards Kade. He has really proven to me to be the better man out of the two. Blane has just made to many mistakes to be unforgivable and specially in the end of Turning Point, how could he!!!

Characters:

Kathleen Turner - runner for the high profile law firm of Gage, Kirk and Trent.

Blane Kirk - Ex-Navy Seal and one of the partners in the firm

Kade -  Ex-FBI agent turned assassin and Blane's brother

For the most part I loved each character but I have to say Kathleen at times really did get on my nerves with her ignorance and not willing to let go of stupid things. But I love how she was never willing to give up on things that mattered, like solving crimes in order to help honor her fallen friend, to help keep Blane and Kade safe and to save her cousin. Along with her will to do anything to make sure those she cares about are safe, she finds herself always in the line of a danger. I really hope that in the next book she comes out even stronger with what all that has happened and that she doesn't fall easily back into her usual ways with a particular someone.

Oh can I just say the sexual tension that went on in this book was over the top. One minute you are cheering for Blane the next minute you are cheering for Kane. Even though nothing sexual happened between Kathleen in Kade, there was denying the tension that was building.  The scenes between Kathleen and Blane were crazy....both men are just Yummy and will make you melt with just the thoughts of what they are capable of doing!! ;-)

There isn't really anything I can say I didn't like about this series, it was just a great series and it kept me turning from one page to the other from the very beginning of the first book. I  will be really sad when the series ends. I can definitely see myself reading these books over and over again and never getting tired of them.

Every plot was written well and kept you guessing which direction the stories were going to go. There were times I thought I had the killer picked out but in turn was wrong. Love it when that happens. There have been so many books that I have read that were similar to this series and were always able to tell the killer by the middle of the book.

I highly recommend these books for reading, you will not be disappointed at all. They are far worth the extra spending and I can't wait till Book Four comes out!! Just going to give me an excuse to read the other books again to be refreshed by the new book. Doubt it will matter because these are the type of books that stay in the back of your mind after you read, I won't even come close to forgetting the stories.

Games of Fire by Airicka Phoenix

Book Synopsis:

Sophie has enough problems in her life without Spencer turning her blood to fire, without eyes freezing and burning her, without his hatred of her. Since his migration into the house next to hers, Sophia Valdez isn't sure whether she wants to toss him under a bus or kiss that smirking mouth of his. But even as the temperature rises around them, leaping flames of passion, want and desire, everything either has ever known will be shattered by the lurking shadow hounding their every step, wanting revenge.

Spencer Rowth moves to the sleepy town of River Port with his mother and twelve year old sister, Suzy, to escape a deceitful father, an unfaithful girlfriend and a life crumbling much too fast for him to grapple onto only to be smacked upside the head by the last thing he wanted again. Sophie was everything he refused to want. Her temper, her wit, her laugh, her smile, the way her entire body goes up in flames under his hands are things he would rather slam a lid on and forget. Instead, he finds himself falling for the smart-mouth next door. But how long will he have before the evil chasing them catches up? How long before the very thing he never wanted becomes his only thread to sanity? And who is after them? What do they want and why do they want Spencer and Sophie dead?

Book Review:

Where to start with this review. I felt the book was a pretty decent read. It was written well but something seemed to throw me off on the book. I pretty much knew who the bad guy was a couple chapters in, but really didn't keep me from reading on. There were a few good moments in the book but I just felt there could have been more, I enjoy the last few chapters as that is where most of the action to me occurred.

Maybe I am wrong on this one but it seemed that one minute Sophie was talking about everything and then it went to narrator telling everything. It was a little confusing but it just maybe me and my ability to decipher between both.

I really think that this book should have been from both main character's POV. It would have made the story more interesting, as the synopsis or blurb reads it tells how Spencer struggles with the feelings he has for Sophie and his past. I would have really liked to have seen his thoughts on certain things that were going on in the story.

I really didn't mind reading the book, I thought it was a really nice. A few things needed to be fixed. Very few issues with editing and the author had a good story line built, but just felt like something was missing from the story. After reading the synopsis over again I realized some of the details that was written in there was not really put in the story. There really was not that huge amount of passion to me, or least not enough to say flames were leaping. I felt there was a good amount of sexual tension between the two but compared to other books I have read that did include passion, this book falls short of that.

Sophie drove me crazy with her constant ramblings at different parts of the story, especially when the danger was around. It was to the point I really wanted to slap her. She definitely was a little immature, but what do you expect from 17 year old. I really also didn't think she was a smart mouthed as the synopsis made her out to be. I think her friend Lauren had more of that going on then Sophie did. Don't get me wrong she could throw an attitude towards someone at one point or two in story.

I really liked Spencer, but I would have loved to have a little more detail about him. I think even continue a little on more with their relationship would have been great too. I don't think the book did him justice when it came to describing his issues that he supposedly was dealing with.

Overall, I thought the book was really nice and if you are looking for a simple read then you would enjoy this book!

Review:

OMG!! Talk about a straight eye catching opener to the book. Just in the first few pages you are drawn in by the insanity of how the author starts her book. I can already see that this book was going to take me to a whole other level in dark and broken guy theme. I don't know how I would have responded if I was to happen upon a scene like, maybe something similar to what Mila did. I don't know!!

I know this is crazy and I am sure there a lot of people out there that get tired of the bad boy, good girl books. Where the girl saves the guy from destruction and so forth, but not me, I don't know if it is because these books make me feel like no situation can't be overcome, that there is always a chance for everything to work out in the end. I can just relate with a lot of the characters in books like these, either way they are a great read and this one is no different.
"I feel there's a certain sadness to him, probably because his eyes hint at things that I don't yet know about him, troubled things. His body is hard, his face is hard, his eyes are hard. Like stone."
There was so much passion in this book, between the arguments, the happiness and the sexual encounters!! Mila and all her sweet innocent can turn out to be not so innocent, haha...but hey who could blame her, we are talking about a hot piece of man and he goes by the name of Pax Tate!! Hot and steamy, that is all I can throw out there!! :)
"I want you tonight," she tells me in my ear. Her teeth nip at my earlobe. "Please Pax."
I groan and pull away looking at her. "I thought you wanted to wait?"
She smiles an endearing and wicked smile. "Fuck that," she says. "I want you now."
This book had me so full of emotions. Pax really had a lot of demons he was dealing with. The remembering the past was enough to bring anyone down. I really did not see that coming, I was going in a total different directions. Wow, talk about bringing you to your knees with shock!! I think I would have probably be in the same shape he was if I had to deal with that memory!! My heart ached for him and my whole opinion of him being just a complete ass was changed. It's amazing what we do to ourselves sometimes to cope with pain.
"I know now what the void was that was always in me. It was this. This horrible knowledge. Even though my mind was concealing it, deep down in a hidden place, I knew. It's why I've always felt empty, why I always welcomed oblivion."
Mila, what a strong girl. She tried her best to be supportive and caring, so many people would have just turned their back on someone like Pax. She really never gave up, even when she had to make the decision that would break her.
"Mila, that day in your shop almost crushed me. When you said no to me, I didn't know if I would survive it, but I knew I had to."
"If You Stay," was a beautifully written story. Courtney Cole style of writing is unique and descriptive, I love the way you are able to feel the story. I really glad I took a chance on this book, I was afraid at first it would be similar to the last few I have read and some of the reviews were turning me away, but I decided to go ahead and read it, and I am so glad I did. I feel like everyone has a chance to come out of the darkness that keeps them hidden, that judging others before you know their whole story is not right and giving up is not an option.

Review:

Where to start with this book. First to say that I read this book in one day, that was how good it was to me. I was not able to stop reading it. Maybe I am just a little weird but I find I enjoy reading about troubled people and how their issues seem to work themselves out in the end. Maybe it is my way of living through them vicariously and thinking that in the long run things will work out.

My opinion of this book was that I loved it! The hardship both main characters dealt with, was so real. I found myself feeling sorry Quinn a lot but on the other end I wanted to rip the guy's head off for being such an ass and player. I could see at some point why he would turn out the way he did but it was still no excuse. Quinn was dealing with a lot emotions throughout the book. Having to deal with a crazy half-brother and a father that could careless about him, it is no wonder Quinn was as messed up as he was.

Poor Emilie, I really could relate with her when it came to following something you loved to do and not something your parents are wanting you to do. The disappoint she felt when her parents really broke my heart. A parent is supposed to believe in you and encourage your dreams, not treat them with disgust. There were parts of Emilie that did drive me nuts but for the most part I really enjoyed her character. She never gave up on her dreams or Quinn.

There was a lot of emotion of happy times but a lot of sad times as well in the book. The writing style was neat and well edited. The story was not rushed but it was not slow either, it was just the right flow. You received the details you needed to get into the story with out being overloaded with excess material.

I feel that Lyla Payne will be making my favorite authors list. She knows how to bring her characters alive and to you really get into the story. I would highly recommend this book for reading!

Finding Kate Huntley by Theresa Ragan

Characters:

Kate Huntley - To me Kate was a survivor. She was a hard core chic that took no crap from anyone and she did things on her own terms and how she wanted. I really enjoyed her character because even though she was tough, she also had a soft side as well, which made her real to me.

Jack Coffey - What can I say about this man other one hot FBI Agent!! Jack had a live life to the fullest attitude even when fighting his demons he kept so hard to hide. He was loyal to his country and believed that all those who hold a badge are to protect and serve. He had a witty personality that leaves you wanting more.  He had a kind heart and would do anything to make things right and to protect those who were close to him no matter the cost.

A.J. Hanson - The best friend and colleague of Jack's. Loyal to his friends and determined to find out the truth instead of believing. Willing to risk for the adventure.

There were a couple other characters in the book but I feel there would be not much I could describe that would not give away their role in the story.

Story Review:

At 15 years old Kate was sailing with her father on the outskirts of Haiti when a horrific tragedy happened. For 10 years Kate was left to survive on her own. She learned how to trust no one and to defend herself from the scum she came across every day. Kate's life was constantly on the run and she never had anyone she could rely on till one day all that changed with FBI Special Agent Jack Coffey came into the pictures. Jack was sent to find Kate and bring her back in regards to finding out who had murdered a couple of scientists, including her father, who were working on an AIDS cure. Things don't go as plan for Jack and Kate and they find themselves running for their lives in order to find out the truth of what really is going on.

I was hooked the minute I opened the book and read the first page. I knew this book was going to end up being a wild ride! I was right!! Everything about this book had me hanging on each word till the end! I had no issues understanding how the characters felt, the writing style of the book was great and very few flaws with editing (which never really matters to me anyhow, I don't review a book for its editing issues).

The chemistry between Kate and Jack was off the chain, I like how the author did not just throw them automatically into a relationship. It kind of is a turn off on a story for me if there is not a struggle for a character to open up. I am not about perfect people and perfect couples, I like the suspense of whether or not they will get together in the book. I like characters to have flaws. Ms. Ragan did just that!

I felt also, when compared to other novels that this one did not feel rushed. It had a nice flow and there was a good amount of detail to the action of the story. I definitely had a hard time trying to figure out who was actually the main bad guy.

Can I just throw out there that the sexual tension between Kate and Jack was insane, there were times I was just like get it over with you know you want to, lol. Jack was just pure hotness, you can't go wrong with a yummy FBI agent that has his own way of doing things!!

Overall, this book was a great little read and I would highly recommend you reading. Theresa Ragan has a great way of helping you understand her characters while still giving you the action and suspense you need in a book. I look forward to reading more books by her!

For You by Mimi Strong

*This is my first ARC review and I am extremely honored to have been given the chance by the author to read her book before release date. I was given this chance in exchange for my honest review of the book and that is what I intend to do.*
I have read several other books by Mimi Strong and I have yet to be disappointed. I love her writing style and the way that she brings the characters to life. You can really relate to each one.

Book Synopsis

I should have known by the tattoos that Sawyer was trouble. My mother always said to stay away from boys with ink, but she ignored her own advice. She also abandoned me and my little sister.
Life's been hard for the two of us, on the run and on our own, but I just turned twenty-one and started working at a bar in a new city. I wear a fake wedding band and a veil of lies.

My gold ring didn't stop Sawyer. He looked into me with his heavenly green eyes, and I nearly forgot my pretty lies. Now he wants to help me get my life together.

I should stay away, because he could blow my cover. When we get found—and I know one day we will—I want my sister to be old enough to handle the truth about our past.

I may be hanging out with Sawyer, but we're definitely not dating. I swear, he's not setting me on fire with every glance or casual touch. We're just friends. I'm not thinking about him wrapping those tattooed arms around me, every second of every day.

My Review

When I started reading, I knew it was going to be another really great book by this author and was super excited to the point I couldn’t put it down. The book had you caught up in emotions of both sadness and happiness. I could truly relate with Aubrey in some way or another. I felt the pain and the constant worry that she was dealing with of having everything fall apart around her after she has worked so hard. When a hot, super sweet, hunk walks into her life it makes it all the more complicated.

The story is about a girl named Aubrey who has been constantly on the run and in hiding from her past. She has along with her, her sister Bell. Aubrey is so afraid that her past will eventually catch up with her that she does everything in her power to stay away from anyone that she feels would cause her to open up. After finding out her grandparents are still alive she finally settles in the small town. Her uncle also resides there and gives her a job working for him at his bar. Here is where she meets the hot, hunky Sawyer, a guy with beautiful tattoos, a sweet personality and a strong liking for Aubrey.

Aubrey is pretty cautious with Sawyer and does not try to lead him on. She is pretty flat out honest about how she feels. Trust is a huge thing for her and after working so hard to keep a low profile she was not about to just let it all fall apart over a guy. Unfortunately, Sawyer was not one to give up so easily and Aubrey is finding it hard to keep a distance from him.

Sawyer was amazing, and I found myself falling for his character, haha!! He never let life get him down (or at least he was really good at hiding it). He always looked to positive ways about issues. Sawyer helps Aubrey leave her shell and begin to finally see that not everything is bad. He was pure hotness in this book and I was starting to see that I might have to up him on my book boyfriend list, lol!

I really enjoyed the fact that you got to see both characters’ POV. I love when an author adds that quality to the story, it helps you to really understand what both characters about and it makes the story more believable. Even though there was a lot of hard emotional moments in the book there were also fun parts and I found myself laughing at a few of Sawyer’s comments. Oh the sexual tension that started off in this book was beyond hotness!! All I can say is, WOW, when the tension went to another whole level!!! YUMMY!!! ;-)

Overall, I found this book to be an amazing story and really felt that by the end I could really relate with the characters. Mimi Strong is an amazing writer and I love how she is so detailed with her characters. She gives a sense of understanding and allows you to the live the stories of the people she writes about instead of just reading them. Each book you feel a part of, you feel you know the characters. I truly enjoy this book and would highly recommend it along with other books written by Mimi Strong. You won’t be disappointed!!
